The course of 2019 of england can mimic the personalities of 2003 and raise the World Cup, says defence coach John Mitchell.
England were knocked out at the group phase as hosts four decades back, having exited from the quarter-finals at New Zealand in 2011.
“We can win it, most definitely. That’s the exciting thing,” said Mitchell.
“We might need to stay focused and ensure we do not get diverted at any stage. We are going to require just a tiny bit of luck and we’ll have to keep healthier.”
England begin their campaign against Tonga in Sapporo next Sunday (11:15 BST) and then meet the USA the next Thursday, prior to the stiffer tests of Argentina and France finish their group fixtures.
“Some players might need to step up. You see that at other World Cups historically – they ask questions of players that probably did not anticipate they were going get as much playing time.,” added Mitchell.
“But it’s amazing this championship does in relation to attracting more from players. You have to contact your mates, so you need to trust your mates, and do not fear making a mistake”
Should Eddie Jones’ side Group C that they might fulfill with Australia or Wales from the quarter-finals, both of whom beat on them in 2015 at the group point.
Hooker Jamie George is taking inspiration in the sole Englishman to lift the World Cup.
“I saw a movie the other day on societal media of Martin Johnson following the 2003 closing that people have not seen very much,” George told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“It was a remarkably humble interview. He was talking about all of the personnel, the gamers who had got them to that location.
“I simply thought to myself’What an unbelievable leader.’ And then, what an unbelievable position to maintain.
“It got the juices flowing. It provides you goose-bumps only thinking about it.
“We’re ultimately in Japan and it is almost slightly surreal. However, you dream about such things; you dream of World Cups.
“There’s a real belief in the group that we’re able to take action. We’re also aware that it is going to take a lot for us to arrive. I’m unbelievably confident we are in a place that is brilliant.
“I really don’t believe many countries in the world can say they’ve got the depth we have.”
New Zealander Mitchell, who helped capture the usa through eligibility with this tournament and coached the All Blacks into the semi-finals in 2003, believes now will be begun by his fees again.
“New Zealand are world champions and they have had some recent form also,” he said.
“They’ll prefer the terms also because it is going to suit their style of soccer – they prefer to move it about, they’re possibly the very best catch-pass team in the competition so that I would provide them a terrific opportunity.
“You have then obtained Ireland and Wales who have had really good success over the last couple of decades. And I wouldn’t dismiss the Springboks – that they seem very powerful.”
New Zealand meet South Africa on Saturday (10:45) in possibly the greatest game of the opening weekend. Both nations having won five World Cups between them.
