Defensive coordinator Don Martindale said he had been disappointed in the shape where Pierce showed up to mandatory minicamp after bypassing previous offseason workouts.
“Obviously you’re disappointed,” Martindale said, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN. “What I said to him, I said it in front of the whole defense: Life is about choices. Just don’t make that choice make your life”
Pierce, a restricted free agent, allegedly showed up to minicamp looking nicely within his listed weight of 340 pounds. After accepting Pierce to task facing his teammates, Martindale did not wish to include more fuel on Wednesday, believing the 26-year-old got the message.
“We piled on enough yesterday,” he explained. “Let’s do not forget what a fantastic football player he is. He’ll reunite. I can not let you know when, but he will get back there.”
An undrafted free agent signing in 2016, Pierce impressed through his first three seasons, also is among the greatest run-stuffing defensive tackles in the league as a rotational participant. Entering a pivotal season, the Ravens will require Pierce to slim down within the next six months leading up to training camp in late July. Otherwise, the defensive tackle risks visiting his non-guaranteed $3 million salary wiped away.
