Stevenage say that racism allegations surrounding their caretaker director Mark Sampson have”no base ”
Sampson was appointed supervisor at Broadhall Way on Monday after the dismissal of Dino Maamria.
The Football Association is investigating a complaint the Lionesses manager used discriminatory vocabulary.
A statement read:”Stevenage Football Club can restate that, following an internal investigation, allegations of racially discriminatory speech attracted against Caretaker Manager Mark Sampson reported from the national press yesterday have no foundation.
“The allegations were called in to the FA by a former coach the afternoon after he had been told by Sampson that he no longer required his services at the club”
Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace stated,”Like any professional team, regardless of where the criticism comes in, we follow strict procedures, which have been traced to the letter.
“The prosecution had been offered the opportunity to make a formal complaint but declined this opportunity, rather choosing to call the FA.
“Nevertheless, CEO Alex Tunbridge acted instantly to interview and take statements from two individuals the plaintiff said were witnesses, as well as others that were within exactly precisely the exact same meeting, but not cited by the claimant.
“In every case that the witnesses did not support the allegations. Given that overwhelming consequence and the circumstances of this allegation, the club reasoned there was no case to answer.
“Maybe now the FA have the evidence, they will ensure it is clear there’s not any case to answer.
“Guilt by association – particularly when the man is well known – is a common weapon to use against people in the public eye and when we find it has no base, we must be both clear in making that known.”
The 36-year-old was sacked from his role after accusations of bullying and discrimination.
News surfaced he had a relationship with a player during his time as coach of Bristol Academy, that resulted in his dismissal by the FA.
The FA said that the allegations were researched and Sampson was cleared of any wrongdoing.
