Bevan French caught his Betfred Super League hat-trick since Wigan went a step closer to securing second place with a persuasive 46-12 win over Catalans Dragons.
All soon changed that since Wigan led, although the Warriors got off to a shaky start and were under the cosh for a little while.
French completed his hat-trick five moments after half-time, while additional tries from Thomas Leuluai and Zak Hardaker set the Warriors in total control before teenaged half-back Harry Smith came off the bench to indicate his first team debut with a try.
Dan Sarginson along with Oliver Gildart grabbed tries , while Catalans’ points came together with Michael McIlorum, from former Warriors while Sam Tomkins added the positions, and Lewis Tierney both scoring tries.
Catalans dominated the opening 20 minutes as they camped inside Wigan’s half, however defence from the likes of George Williams, Tony Clubb and Liam Farrell guaranteed the Dragons were unable to cross .
When Farrell had been found guilty wigan discovered themselves back to 12 guys.
Wigan bombed a terrific opportunity to start the scoring in the 22nd minute once the ball came loose before Oliver Gildart did exactly the same, and Williams hacked on, but unfortunately for the Warriors that the ball did not bounce the way and also the Dragons recovered ownership.
The Warriors made for not taking their opportunities as a ball collected from Williams to go over Catalans pay. He was hit late with all the knees out of Mickael Simon as he spreads the ball that led to a penalty try.
Hardaker converted the try and the penalty for an 8-0 lead.
French added a second attempt because he showed plenty of speed and composure to overcome the covering defence after a mistake from Arthur Romano – the Dragons looked a beaten side and Hardaker’s conversion made it 14-0.
French needed five minutes from the half since he stepped past Mickael and Romano Goudemand to get down, to finish his own hat-trick. Hardaker converted as Wigan led 20-0.
The Dragons refused to lie down and they found themselves on the scoreboard as prior Wigan hooker McIlorum went over from close variety, after getting the ball back.
It had been Catalans’ turn into jumble the kick-off and full advantage was taken by Wigan. As he was able to get the ball away to Hardaker, who stepped on to score bevan moved from try-scorer to provider. The full-back wasn’t able to convert Wigan were at 24-6 from sight.
Until Smith was able to score in his very first actual involvement leuluai extended Wigan’s lead further as he danced his way past a Catalans defence.
Joe and gildart Burgess combined down the left until the latter sent a kick back infield to touch down, and then he subsequently converted his own score.
Wigan hit the 40 markers in the past ten minutes when provider again turned as he murdered through for his centre to pick up and score.
Until Gildart had the final say with a test to assert a success the Dragons managed to grab their second try through Tierney.
